On March 6th, my adoption of Taylor and Alex was FINAL! It was a fun filled morning!
We had to be out early that morning. Court started at 8:30 AM sharp. So we made it downtown, parked by the courthouse and made our way to Courtroom A. Once inside we found that we were one of 12 court cases that morning! Needless to say, Gina and I were a little nervous at how the boys were going to behave sitting in a boring court.
Taylor, Alex, and Jack were perfect. They were partly curious at how a court worked, but I think they were also a little scared of what the judge would do if they acted naughty!
Lachlan, however, decided that he was going to debate just like the lawyers. The first few cases were done via conference call and were broadcast on the courtroom’s PA system. Once those lawyers started talking, so did Lachlan and he didn’t stop until they did.
While this was happening, Gina and I were sweating it a little. The baliff and court reporters were smiling at Lachlan, but we were afraid Lach was gonna get REAL loud.
All in all, the court cases went by pretty fast and it was our turn. The formality of it all was pretty quick. Gina and I had to sign the paperwork in front of the judge. Taylor had to sign also since he’s 13. The judged stated that he had read the paperwork and thought that the adoption was in the boys best interest and that he recommended adoption.
Gina cried… the court transcriber cried… Lachlan cried…
Then the judge did something a little out of the ordinary. He announced that it wasn’t that often they got to try cases that were happy and fun, so when they did they liked to celebrate. He then went into his chambers and returned with a “Congratulations” cake and made sure the boys ate 2 pieces! He even let us take pictures with him. One with “bunny ears” behind his head.
Gina and I are very happy that this is finally done, and that there are 2 more Weeks!
